Originally from Arunchal Pradesh, India, Samcha is currently working on her PhD in literature in New Delhi, India. In addition to reading, she loves writing, traveling, history, DIY projects, and fashion. She offers sessions on all of the above on Konversai. Learn more about Samcha and her journey in the Konversation below.

Konversai: What does a typical day look like for you? This could include at work and/or outside of work.

Samcha: A typical day in my life starts with a cup of tea, then my work on my PhD research. In the evening, I usually go out for a walk, do yoga, and sometimes meet some friends for drinks and dinner, then I retire to bed.

Samcha: I am where I am today due to the disappointments I have had in my life. I was always an outgoing person when I was younger. However, due to some personal setbacks in my life, I have learnt to be more patient, slow, and accepting of situations. My research work is another result of that new version of me, which perhaps I would not have considered as an option, had I stayed the same.

Konversai: What is your favorite thing about what you do?

Samcha: It is that I get to study about different cultures and have peeks into different kinds of lives and characters. The analytical part is also important for me as I am naturally an analyzer.

Samcha: My very recent favorite book is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie. I thought that her book was so comprehensive in what all it addressed and it was done with a lot of grace and poise. She made me see race in a very post-modern way.

Konversai:  How did you decide to offer the sessions you offer on Konversai?

Samcha: I like interacting with people from different cultures and ideologies. I feel that the more variety of people that exists in the world, the better. Diversity is actually a merit, not the other way around. Konversai offered this incentive to interact and learn from others and hopefully teach someone what you are able to do. So when I saw an advertisement for Konversai, I couldn’t help but be curious, and once I opened the website, there was no going back.

Samcha: I have offered a book session so far, and it went amazingly. Initially I was confused as to what kind of atmosphere the platform would provide. What Konversai promised felt too good to be true at first. But once I did my session, I realized that it is truly what it promises to be. I felt like I was sharing knowledge and having a normal conversation.

Konversai: What do you like best about being a provider on Konversai?

Samcha: As a provider, I think the best thing is that you get to share what you know with others. We never know when and how our lives can be impacted by some idea or when and how we might impact someone else’s life with our ideas. I also get to learn from the seeker, because I believe there is always something to learn from another person regardless of whether I am a provider or seeker. That’s the beauty of Konversai, I believe. You will learn regardless of what you sign up as.

Samcha: I like to believe that I am a warm person in general. I naturally feel the need to make the other person feel warm in the beginning. I try to treat them as a friend, not as a seeker. And yes, I am definitely open to becoming an actual friend if we have done frequent sessions and they have gone well. Besides this, I think I have a very diversified knowledge as I like to watch TED talks and documentaries and read books. I have varied interests and knowledge to contribute. So as a Konversai provider, I am able to find an appropriate outlet where I can let loose my inner diversity.

Samcha: I think I would like to take sessions on guided meditation from other providers. I believe in mental health very much, and I believe that if you take care of yourself on the inside, then it reflects on the outside. The world we live in is very fast paced and competitive. I feel meditation and yoga are ways by which all of us can take care of ourselves.

Konversai: What advice would you give to potential users who are looking to join the platform? What about specifically for other users who are offering sessions similar to yours?

Samcha: What I would like to say to potential users is “Go for it if you want to learn in life. You will not be disappointed.” To those who are offering similar sessions as me, I would like to tell them to talk with a seeker as you talk to a friend. Seekers want to learn, and they take a risk when they book a session with a provider. Show them that they have made the right call by choosing you. Be warm, open, and friendly whatever session you are providing. More important than the knowledge you share is how comfortable the seeker feels with you. A good interpersonal rapport with the seeker is very important  to me.

Konversai: What do you enjoy doing outside of work and Konversing?

Samcha: I enjoy traveling and teaching yoga to others. I occasionally give home yoga classes, and I love to be able to provide help to my students.
